Chapter Six

Ménage A Trios’

Nightfall comes and I keep my plan to myself. Our trip wasn’t supposed to be extended, but I wasn’t ready to go. Those diamonds were literally calling my name, “Marilyn”. Grandfather and Father know that I am up to something, but I never reveal anything.

“Marilyn we are here if you need us. Mark will be gone for another twenty four hours or maybe more, what is your plan?” my farther probes while we all sit in the living room sipping on liquor after dinner. I have a glass of white wine in my hand while my father and grandfather sip on Brandy.

“I have a plan Father, everything will be just fine,” I reassure them both. I can feel my grandfather watching me intently from across the room with his glass poised in hand.

“That mansion is a fortress with a sufficient amount of cameras everywhere,” my father explains with concern. I resist the overwhelming urge to ask them about the black man named Kane that’s chained in grandfather’s office. However, I don’t, not after what he told me earlier today. To stay away from Kane, but I want to know why.

As I respond, “I know Father and I won’t have to worry about that because I have a plan where I will be invited into the mansion.”

My grandfather’s eyebrows rise with suspicion as he gazes at me with a doubtful look in his eyes.

“Don’t worry,” I guzzle down the remainder of my wine, standing to my feet and placing my wine glass on the living room table. I stroll over towards my grandfather, kissing him on his cheek, hoping his suspicions will evaporate. I dare not forget to kiss my father on his cheek, anticipating his apprehension of me, knowing my past and present history. Surely they have to know I killed a man, several, cutting one man’s wrist with a kitchen knife to steal the diamonds.

Before I can exit my father extends his hand out grabbing my hands into his sweaty palm, “Here take this with you,” my father hands me a small .22 caliber pistol with an elegant pearl handle. I grip it in my hands tightly. I’ve never shot a gun, but I’ve held them on many occasions before.

“Use it and don’t hesitate not to. It’s either you or them,” my father assures me kissing me on my forehead and embracing into a long hug. As I prepare to leave, my grandfather catches me completely off guard when he speaks.

“We know you have extracted intelligence from the African man we have chained in my office. We trust that you won’t let him fool you and let him lead you into a trap. A desperate man will say anything to save his life. After we are done with him there will be no further use for him. Do you understand Marilyn?” My grandfather asks with steel in his voice. I want to complain, tell him that I had given the African man my word that he wouldn’t be harmed.
